VMAS belongs to the category of advanced fleet management system, using the most recent and proven technologies applied in the AIS and radar signal processing.

VMAS solution, developed by SOFRESUD, is an efficient solution to monitor a fleet of vessels equipped with AIS.

VMAS has been especially thought for offshore oil &gas activities taken into account specific requests of this domain. It has been designed to offer surveillance operators the best user experience in term of ergonomics and simplicity.

VMAS operator screen has been thought to provide a quick understanding of the global situation and an easy access to all the information of interest thanks to frames, icons and widgets.

When interfaced with appropriate radar system, VMAS offers operators the necessary complementary tool to track non cooperative vessels navigating in the area of interest.

The system design allows its deployment on any private network and VMAS manage simultaneous connections with a secure access (login/password).

Thanks to its native web-based client-server architecture, any authenticated user can access the application from a simple web browser.

VMAS system challenge is to provide to maritime surveillance operators a global understanding of their own fleet activity and other maritime activity, thanks to integration of information retrieved from a network of acquisition devices.

VMAS is designed to be interfaced with the following devices:

  • Navigation radar
  • AIS (Automatic Identification System) receiver is a device collecting position and identity of vessels that share this information with other close vessels. AIS data are used to identify cooperative ships, oil tankers and supplies operating in the area, but also merchant ships, fishing vessels…
  • Navigation radar uses a standard rotating pulsed technology. Its performance of detection is relative to the main characteristics of the radar (antenna length, power, frequency band, etc.) but also to the algorithms used to process the signal data. This is the reason why The integration of radar information is accomplished thank to a dedicated radar signal processing unit, VMAS “Radar Scan Unit”, which allows to transform analogical radar video outputs into high quality digital raw video stream.

The naval traffic picture is built by the representation of merged tracks from all connected sensors. The minimum requirement to acquire a maritime traffic picture is to connect VMAS to one AIS receiver in order to improve detection and surveillance capabilities, VMAS could usefully be connected to a maritime radar antenna thanks to VMAS Radar Scan Unit.

VMAS offers a broad spectrum of capabilities which may or not be activated depending on each configuration. This includes:

  • Global acquisition and tracking of all AIS-equipped vessels in the covered area;
  • Maritime chart display capability;
  • Zones and traffic management and monitoring;
  • Initiation of alarms for vessels not complying with predefined navigation or security rules;
  • Recording and replay of vessels movements and alarms;
  • Private multi-user access;
  • Acquisition and tracking of target in the area covered by each radar the system is interfaced with;
  • Correlation of the different sources of information
